Born in Gisborne, a remote and naturally idyllic New Zealand city, from an early age Sheryl was making her own clothes. Her insatiable desire to create, led to her studying Fashion Design and Technology at Massey University in Wellington and was followed with a move to Europe, the fashion merry-go-round of fashion internships in Spain and London building up her formidable design and technical skills.
In 2000 Sheryl May founded her label in Brixton, London; where from her kitchen table she cut, sew, hand printed, and embroidered pieces which sold through cool London boutiques. More stockists followed and with them an invitation to show at the London Fashion Week exhibition, Paris and Italy. Women from all over Europe, Japan, the US and the Middle East added pieces from Sheryl's collections to their wardrobes.
Whenever I wear Sheryl's pieces I get commented on. When they ask me who the designer is I never tell. Sheryl's my secret". Claire Smith.
In 2008 Sheryl established a design studio back in her home town and works between Gisborne and London. Producing two main collections a year. Sheryl also consults in differing capacities with a diverse range of clients such as Burberry, Aldo, Gap, and M&S
